AMD’s latest Adrenalin 25.10.2 driver is wreaking havoc for gamers trying to use the Radeon overlay or FSR 4 upscaling. Multiple users across Reddit have reported immediate crashes when enabling these features in DirectX games, with titles like Cyberpunk 2077, Dead by Daylight, and GTA V among the worst affected.
The problems seem widespread but not universal. Over on r/AMDHelp, user OguzzzzM warned others after experiencing crashes across several games. Cyberpunk 2077 won’t even launch with FSR 4 enabled through the Radeon overlay. Dead by Daylight crashes the moment players try opening the overlay, followed by an Easy Anti-Cheat DirectX error. GTA V struggles to properly detect the GPU or DirectX device.
But it gets worse. Some users are reporting their PCs crashing when waking from sleep or even just when monitors turn off. One Redditor mentioned their system would reboot after leaving it idle for 20 minutes, with the driver throwing a timeout error after rebooting. Another user with a 9070 XT said opening Adrenalin during Arc Raiders instantly crashes the game.
A post on r/radeon also paints a similar picture. Users with 7900 XTX and 9800X3D builds experienced black screens and system reboots just from waking their monitors. Others noticed worse frame time stability in games, with one person specifically calling out Lies of P for having noticeably degraded performance on the new driver.
Recording with Radeon’s ReLive feature is also broken for some users. Battlefield 6 won’t record gameplay, and Counter-Strike 2 players reported their mouse cursor getting completely locked when opening the overlay. That’s particularly frustrating since it forces you to close the entire game just to regain cursor control.
Interestingly, not everyone is having issues. Several users with 9070 XT cards reported no problems whatsoever, though the pattern isn’t clear. Some speculate it’s tied to Windows 11 24H2, as one user mentioned having no issues on the older 24H2 build with updates paused.
AMD acknowledged some of these problems in their release notes. They listed known issues including “intermittent application crash or driver timeout” in Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing, Battlefield 6 crashes on certain hardware, and texture corruption when using AMD Record and Stream. They’re working with developers on fixes, but there’s no timeline yet.
For now, the solution is simple: roll back to driver version 25.9.1. Multiple users confirmed this older driver works perfectly fine with all the features that are breaking on 25.10.2. You can do this through Device Manager or by using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) for a clean reinstall.
If you’ve already updated and are experiencing crashes, don’t panic. Just uninstall the current driver and grab 25.9.1 from AMD’s website. It’s worth noting that AMD’s driver support page has the older versions available for download. Given how many people are affected, it’s probably best to skip this update until AMD releases a fix.
