AMD’s latest Adrenalin software update has turned out to be a major headache for Fortnite and Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players. Since the update, players across various forums, especially on Reddit, have reported game-breaking issues ranging from constant crashes to significant FPS drops, making these games almost unplayable on certain AMD graphics cards.
Players facing crashes, black screens, and freezing
A big issue appears to be with Fortnite. Several players noted that their game wouldn’t even launch after updating to AMD’s new driver. One user on Reddit’s Fortnite community shared that their game would get stuck on a loading screen indefinitely. “Reverting the drivers back to the previous version fixes the Fortnite problem, but then makes my GPU unrecognized by the rest of my PC,” the user wrote, capturing the frustration that many have echoed.
Some players have managed to get the game running by logging out of the Epic Games launcher and logging back in. However, these temporary workarounds aren’t resolving the underlying issues for most players. Meanwhile, Fortnite’s recommended driver version appears to have been rolled back, with users noticing that AMD’s 24.8.1 driver (instead of the latest 24.10.1) seems to work better for stability, though performance takes a hit.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 struggling to keep up
Black Ops 6 players are facing similar issues. From sudden crashes mid-game to error codes like “887A0005,” it’s a rough time for those who recently updated their drivers. One frustrated player shared that they tried everything from reinstalling the game to lowering their graphics settings, yet the crashes persisted. “Love AMD but the 7900xtx has given me more problems than my last GPU (2060 super),” they lamented. Many other AMD users also share the same sentiment right now.
It’s even more frustrating for BO6 players because the game hasn’t even been out for that long. So those who were excited about putting in some hours in the game now have to deal with a broken game, thanks to AMD’s faulty update.
Potential causes and workarounds
While AMD hasn’t yet released an official fix, some users have found that rolling back to the previous driver, version 24.8.1, restores some stability. Yet, for those still experiencing issues, troubleshooting hasn’t been easy. There are suggestions like disabling specific features in Discord, which some users claim has helped stop crashes by preventing DLL injections that disrupt the game.
We’ll have to wait and see if AMD rolls out a patch for the issue soon. As usual, we’ll update the article if and when there’s something to share. Feel free to let us know if the update broke other games too.
