Google has released Android 15 Beta 4.1, addressing a significant bug that impacted calling functionality on Pixel devices. The update, carrying the build number AP31.240617.010, specifically targets issues that caused device audio to crash during calls.
The bug, which emerged with the previous Beta 4 release, affected numerous Pixel 6 series users. Reports flooded in about dropped calls, silent phone lines, and unstable network connections. Users described frustrating scenarios where calls would go silent after just 20 seconds, with some experiencing their phone screens behaving erratically during these silent calls.
Google’s Issue Tracker saw the problem gain traction, accumulating over 220 upvotes before being marked as “Assigned.” At the time of writing, it now has 457 upvotes. Luckily, the tech giant acknowledged the issue and promised to investigate, leading to this swift release of Beta 4.1.
The official changelog for the update explicitly mentions fixing “various issues that sometimes caused device audio to crash while making or receiving calls.” This addresses multiple reported problems, including calls dropping entirely, going silent, or experiencing intermittent audio issues.
While the bug caused significant inconvenience, some users had found temporary workarounds. These included switching to speaker mode, using headphones, or toggling Wi-Fi calling. However, these solutions were far from ideal for daily use.
Nevertheless, now that the latest beta aims to address those concerns, you should go check for an update manually if you haven’t received Android 15 Beta 4.1 on your device yet. As always, beta software may still contain bugs, and users should proceed with caution. However, for those plagued by the calling issues, this update promises welcome relief.
