Update 19/09/24 10:43 pm (IST): Respawn has followed up on the status of the crashing issues. Here’s their latest post on X:

Update: We’re continuing to investigate the frequent crashes PlayStation players are experiencing in
@PlayApex. We understand how frustrating this is and will let you know as soon as we have a timeline for a fix. Thank you for your patience while we work through this.

Original article published on September 18, 2024, follows:

Many Apex Legends players on PlayStation consoles, particularly the PS5 have taken to Reddit, X, and the EA community forums to report that the game keeps crashing following the latest S22 Split 2 update.

Users claim that they are unable to play matches properly because the game just crashes mid-way. In fact, even after getting back, there are chances that it’ll crash again, making the game practically unplayable. As expected, this has left hundreds of players furious and questioning how long it’ll take Respawn to address the problem. Here’s how some players describe the problem:

I’m loving the content of the update but I can’t get any real matches in because I keep crashing every match . Every match I have literally joined except for 1 has CRASHED ! RESPAWN FIX YOUR GAME ! (Source)

Whatever they did to the update after the split I am crashing constantly. I can’t tell you how many time it’s crashed right when I’m jump master in ranked. When I finally get back in I’m barely in or I’m flying off the map. What happened? (Source)

Can anybody tell me why my game keeps crashing? It’s either every few games or several times in one game. I want to play this game. I’ve been playing since launch. But Jesus Christ dude it’s not fun when the game crashes mid fight. (Source)

While most complaints about the game crashing are from Apex Legends players on the PS5, there are a few PC players who’re also reporting that the game’s crashing for them as well. Adding salt to their wounds, the constant crashing is leaving some players with penalties for abandoning the game. One player took to Reddit to share a picture of the match summary:

this game is getting to my nerves

Apart from the constant crashes, multiple players are also troubled by server issues and persistent lag while playing. One Redditor says: “Wow the servers are broken and they still can’t put u in a lobby with a descent ping. No regs are crazy. No reque. Matchmaking is broken. I guess the shop is the only thing working right.” Many other players are also sharing similar sentiments in the past few hours on the Apex Legends Subreddit.

While Respawn still has a lot to get right, at least they’ve confirmed that they’re working to fix the constant crashing on PlayStation consoles. In a post on X, Respawn said the following:

We’re aware some PlayStation players are encountering crashes after today’s @PlayApex patch. We’re working on a fix and will let you know as we have an update!

Granted that the team is aware and working on a fix, Apex Legends players on PlayStation can rest assured that a resolution is on the way. However, it’s unclear if there will be a patch to fix the problem on PCs.

In the meantime, a potential workaround could be to remove skins, banners and other stuff from the previous event. One Redditor claims doing this reduces the number of times the game crashes.

What I did notice is when I removed skins , banners , quips etc etc from the previous event it crashed a lot less which f***ing sucks because you would want to use some that look cool. (Source)

So give this potential workaround a shot and let us know if it works for you in the comments below. We’ll update the article if and when there are any further developments.
