Apple has a packed schedule for rolling out its much-anticipated Apple Intelligence features, and if you’ve been waiting for these updates, there’s finally a timeline in sight. According to Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is “racing” to finalize the second set of Apple Intelligence features this year, with updates planned across several iOS 18 versions. The staggered release will bring tools like Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and much more—but you’ll need to be patient.
The first wave of updates is just around the corner. Apple is set to release iOS 18.1 by mid-October, and it’s already gone through four beta versions. This update won’t bring the biggest Apple Intelligence features, but it lays the groundwork. iOS 18.1 will streamline the connectivity panel in Control Center, making Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and other settings easier to manage.
Siri’s “Type to Siri” will also get smarter, suggesting queries based on what you type. That said, there are still a couple of bugs to iron out before the official release, such as issues with Control Center buttons for hearing functions and lock screen shortcuts icons. These are expected to be resolved before the update goes public.
Apple is racing to get the iOS 18.2 update ready for a December launch. This release will be a significant one, introducing some of the most awaited Apple Intelligence features. Genmoji, a feature expected to take Apple’s animated emoji to the next level, will debut alongside the much-talked-about ChatGPT integration.
There’s also the new Image Playground app, which is likely to push the boundaries of photo editing and creativity on your iPhone. Gurman notes that iOS 18.2 is expected to hit zero-bug status in November, just in time for its December release window.
Not long after iOS 18.2, we can expect iOS 18.3 to arrive by January. Apple has been working hard to wrap up this version by the end of the year. While this update may not be as feature-packed as 18.2, it could include some new Siri updates. Features originally planned for later releases may get pulled into iOS 18.3, depending on Apple’s progress. It will be a critical step in refining Apple Intelligence even further.
The biggest iOS 18 update, iOS 18.4, is scheduled for March 2024. According to Gurman, Apple is putting a lot of work into this release, with more Siri updates and possibly additional new features in store. As of now, it’s still in the early development stages, but by the time it arrives, iOS 18 should be a fully polished operating system with most of the key Apple Intelligence features in place.
Just keep in mind that this is still not “official” information. Things might change depending on Apple’s actual progress in the coming weeks and months. However, Apple is clearly aiming for a bug-free experience, even if it means pushing back some releases. If all goes according to plan, by March 2024, your iPhone will have most of the advanced Apple Intelligence features. The wait might be long, but it seems Apple is working hard to ensure that these updates are worth it.
