Apple users across various devices are experiencing a frustrating “Verification Failed” error when trying to log in, even when using correct passwords. This issue appears to be widespread, affecting older iPhone and iPad models, as well as HomePod setups.
The problem manifests in different scenarios. Users are finding themselves unable to sign in to their Apple ID, turn off “Find My” features, or even authorize app store purchases. The error message typically reads “Verification Failed: This action could not be completed. Please try again.” This happens regardless of network conditions or account details.
One user on Apple’s discussion forums, Q10nick, shared their experience with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 15.8.4. They stated, “Unable to log in to your apple id account, error Verification Failed. This action could not be completed. Please try again. Tried resetting, flashing, used different networks and accounts, unable to log in to any account, what else can I do?” This highlights the persistent nature of the bug, even after troubleshooting attempts.
Another user, AlessandroEVO, reporting the same issue with an iPad Air 2 on iPadOS 15.8.4, mentioned that Apple customer service attempted various solutions, including “force reboot, iPad iTunes firmware update and also EULA confirmation.” They added, “Today at 6pm they will call me back from engineering team… Seems like they are working on this issue.” This suggests a deeper technical problem requiring attention from Apple’s engineering teams.
The issue isn’t just limited to older iPads. A user on Reddit’s r/HomeKit community, scoobs9696, reported a similar “Verification Failed: Unknown Error” when trying to add a HomePod to their HomeKit setup. After contacting support, they were told, “This is an issue we are aware of and it will be fixed in an upcoming update no ETA.” This confirmation from Apple support directly indicates their knowledge of the bug across different product lines. However, there’s still no public statement about the bug from Apple.
While Apple is apparently working on fixing the issue, some users have found temporary workarounds, like logging into account.apple.com and iCloud.com through Safari before attempting to sign in on their device. However, this is not a guaranteed fix for everyone.
At present, the best thing to do is to report the bug to Apple by any available means. The more reports Apple gets, the more priority they’ll have to give it. We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article if there’s something to share.
