Pixel users seem to have found a possible fix for audio problems on Android Auto after the December update. Reports have been flooding in about a frustrating bug causing apps like Spotify and Pocket Casts to stop sending audio to car speakers. This issue has affected Pixel 6, 7, 8, and 9 users connected to Android Auto via USB.

The glitch surfaced after the December 2024 Feature Drop, which brought several new features but also introduced this audio problem. Users initially thought faulty cables were to blame. However, it turned out Android Auto itself was the culprit.

Luckily, there’s a potential workaround shared by a user on Google’s support forums. The trick involves enabling microphone permissions for Android Auto. To try it, go to Settings on your phone, find Apps, select Android Auto, then Permissions, and make sure the microphone is allowed. A few users have confirmed this workaround brings audio back to life. Disabling the microphone causes the issue to return.

One user, frustrated with the silence, said the fix saved them from a nine-hour holiday drive without music. Another reported success with their Pixel 6 and a 2024 Toyota RAV4. While it’s not an official solution, many are finding relief with this simple change.

Google has acknowledged the issue and says it’s being investigated. No timeline has been shared for an official patch. For now, this workaround could be a lifesaver for anyone dealing with the bug. If you’re affected, give it a shot and see if it helps. If not, you might have to wait for Google to roll out a proper fix.
