Last month, Anoki, a leading innovator in AI-powered TV experiences, unveiled Live TVx, a free streaming service designed to revolutionize content discovery on Google TV devices. Live TVx’s AI-driven personalization promised to tailor channel recommendations to individual viewing habits, making it easier for users to find content they love.

However, the initial excitement has given way to growing frustration as Google TV and Android TV users report a range of issues with the app. Some users complain that Live TVx has replaced their TV tuner, hindering their ability to watch over-the-air (OTA) channels. Others find the app intrusive and difficult to remove, even after performing factory resets.

Anoki’s press release announced Live TVx as a free streaming service designed to curate channels based on individual viewing habits, using advanced AI technology. “Anoki leverages the power of AI to personalize the experience for each user and ensure that they see the content they truly want, when they want it,” said Raghu Kodige, CEO of Anoki. The service aims to make content discovery seamless and intuitive, even tailoring ad experiences to match the content viewers watch. Despite these ambitious goals, the reality for many users has been less than ideal.

Why do you have the Live TVx app?

The Live TVx app was installed on your device as part of a recent software update. Anoki and Google collaborated to make this app available on select Google TV and Android TV devices in the US. While it aims to improve the user experience, the rollout seems to have encountered unexpected issues.

The mandatory nature of the update has been particularly contentious. Unlike typical app installations, Live TVx appeared overnight without the option to decline. This sudden change disrupted users’ viewing habits, particularly those who rely on OTA channels for free content. Some have resorted to drastic measures such as using ADB commands to uninstall the app, only to find that it also disabled access to other inputs on their TVs.

Potential workaround and official word from Google

In response to the rising complaints, Google support has acknowledged the issues and is actively working with Anoki to address them. They have provided troubleshooting steps, including clearing the app cache and performing a channel scan. Google’s support team encourages users experiencing issues to contact them directly via email at [email protected] and include device manufacturer, version, and a description of the problem to better address the concerns.

Others have resorted to using an older discontinued DTV tuner as a workaround, and it seems this might be your only way out for now. The old DTV is still available to download in the Google Play Store.

While the Live TVx app holds promise for personalized content discovery, the current user experience has been marred by technical glitches and frustration. It remains to be seen how quickly Anoki and Google can address these issues and deliver on the app’s potential.

Until then, users affected by the problems can try the suggested troubleshooting steps or explore workarounds while waiting for a more permanent solution.
