Update 07/05/24 13:50 pm (IST): Another person on Reddit recently shared what they got to hear from a senior manager at Apple. In their own words:

He said he will have an answer by May 8.the only thing he told me is that the Apple news app is not available outside of the US and some other places and he doesn’t see a technical issue.

So maybe we will have to wait for a day or two before we get some official clarity on the matter.

Update 03/05/24 12:11 pm (IST): A redditor alleges that they were in contact with Apple support who claimed that the issue is under investigation. Users also speculate that Apple could be preparing to launch the Apple News app globally and thus have axed the standalone widget temporarily. While this does seem plausible, I’d suggest taking the information with a grain of salt. Apple is yet to make any public statement regarding the disappearance of the News widget.

Original article published on May 2, 2024 follows:

iPhone users around the world are reporting a puzzling issue: the Apple News widget has vanished from their devices. Complaints have flooded online platforms like Reddit and X, with users expressing confusion and frustration. Dozens of comments under similar posts suggest that users around the world are affected by this weird glitch. Even searching for the News widget turns up blank. While the majority of reports seem to be from users on iOS 17.4, the issue isn’t limited to the latest software update. Some users running older versions of iOS 16 have also confirmed their News widget is missing. This suggests the problem isn’t a bug specific to a particular iOS iteration. I tried checking to see if the News widget has disappeared on my iPhone 13 running iOS 17.5 (beta) and I noticed that while it hasn’t disappeared, the News widget doesn’t load anything at all.

Apple has yet to officially acknowledge the issue or offer a solution. It remains unclear what’s causing the News widget to disappear or when a fix might be available.

Hello @Remco. Thanks for the comment. Did you get in touch with the Apple Support team? If yes, what did they say?
