Duolingo users are growing frustrated with the sheer number of ads promoting “Super Duolingo” after every lesson. Many learners have taken to Reddit to vent about the constant interruptions, saying the app feels more like an ad delivery system than a language-learning tool.
One Reddit user shared their annoyance, writing, “Am I the only one getting a Super Duolingo ad after EACH LESSON?? It’s getting annoying and takes a lot more time to get a good amount of XP than it should.” The post quickly gained traction, with hundreds of upvotes and replies echoing the sentiment. Some users joked that they’ve memorized the ad copy word-for-word at this point, while others admitted they’d finally caved and subscribed just to make the interruptions stop.
The ads, which promote the benefits of Super Duolingo — like going ad-free, unlimited hearts, and AI-powered practice tools — seem to be showing up after every lesson for many free-tier users. While some learners appreciate what Super offers, others feel the aggressive ad placements are a bit much. “It’s like I’m learning German, Spanish, and Super Duolingo ads at the same time,” one user joked.
Not everyone is convinced the constant ads are intentional, though. Some speculate it could be part of a temporary promotional push, while others have suggested simply restarting the app to bypass them. A few users even questioned the value of upgrading. “I’m already paying for Super Duolingo which I enjoy, but the push for Max is irritating me and is making me think no one is even purchasing it,” one subscriber complained.
Despite the grumbling, Duolingo’s strategy appears to be working for some. A handful of users admitted they’ve upgraded to Super or joined a family plan to skip the interruptions altogether. For now, it seems like many free-tier users are stuck enduring the ads — or trying to outlast them.
