Many Pixel Watch users noticed an annoying bug with the Fitbit app that’s causing a discrepancy in the step counts on the watch and in the app. The problem, which seems to have emerged in early September 2024, affects both older Pixel Watch models and the recently released Pixel Watch 3.

Multiple users on Fitbit’s community forums, Reddit, and Google support forums, have described discrepancies ranging from a few hundred to several thousand steps between what their watches display and what the Fitbit app shows on their smartphones. In some cases, users have noticed their step counts decreasing over time, while others report the app showing higher numbers than their watches.

One affected user stated: “Right now, this is what it is showing: Android App: 13,939, Pixel Watch 3 Face: 15K, When I click on Steps on Watch: 14,979.” They also tried various troubleshooting steps, including rebooting devices, clearing app data, and even deleting and reinstalling the Fitbit app, all to no avail.

The issue appears to be widespread, affecting users across different Pixel Watch models and phone combinations. Some users have also noticed discrepancies in heart rate data between their watches and the app. In fact, even calorie estimation and exercise tracking is bugged too.

Luckily, it appears Fitbit is now aware of the problem and is working on a fix at the time of this writing. A moderator on the Fitbit community confirmed to a user: “We’re aware of that issue and currently looking forward to fixing it as soon as possible. We kindly ask you to wait a bit more for a resolution. So it’s not an issue with your watch, it’s a general issue that we’ve been having for about a week in the Fitbit app.”

While it’s reassuring that Fitbit is aware of the bug, the company has not provided a specific timeline for when users can expect a fix. This has left many Fitbit enthusiasts frustrated, particularly those who rely on accurate step tracking for fitness goals or challenges.

We’ll keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there are any further developments.
