In a twist that’s sure to disappoint some US foldable fans, Samsung’s rumored premium Galaxy Z Fold 6 model might be a no-show stateside.

According to a report by Galaxy Club, Samsung is still working on a mysterious device codenamed “Q6A.” This comes hot on the heels of rumors that claimed the device was reportedly getting dropped. The upcoming foldable is reported to be an “Ultra” or “Slim” version of the Z Fold 6, potentially boasting a larger display and slimmer profile. Some even speculate it might pack camera upgrades worthy of the “Ultra” moniker.

But here’s the kicker: this fancy foldable might only hit shelves in South Korea and China.

Reliable tech leaker, Max Jambor, also claims Samsung plans to unveil the Q6A in October, alongside the Galaxy Tab S10 and possibly an early version of their XR headset. However, the limited release strategy suggests Samsung might be feeling the heat from competitors like Honor, Oppo, and Huawei in the Chinese market.

If you haven’t been keeping up with tech news, it might be a head-scratcher why Samsung would keep this presumably souped-up foldable away from US consumers. But if you look into previous launches, it’ll make sense, or at least paint a clearer picture.

Back when Samsung launched the Z Fold 2, it also released a China-exclusive model with a slightly different exterior, dubbed as the W21 5G. The company followed this up with another custom version of the Z Fold 3, the W22 5G, built exclusively for China.

As expected, Samsung then went ahead and launched the W23 5G and W24 5G based on the Z Fold 4 and Z Fold 5 respectively. So it’s no secret that the upcoming special edition of the Z Fold 6 will likely be dubbed the W25 5G in China.

Want to know more about this mystery foldable? We’ll have to wait until October to see what Samsung’s really cooking up. After seeing rumors and teasers of devices like the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4, I think Samsung’s mysterious Z Fold 6 sibling will have to step it up a few notches to be relevant in China.
