A recent update to Instagram’s app seems to have inadvertently caused a disruption for many users, who are now reporting difficulties in viewing Likes and Captions on posts. The issue appears to have surfaced shortly after the app’s update on June 24, 2024, affecting a significant number of users across both Android and iOS platforms.

According to numerous threads on Reddit, users have expressed frustration over their inability to see captions in profiles and the disappearance of like counts and comments on posts. This sudden change has led to confusion and speculation within the Instagram community. Here’s a video shared by a user on 𝕏 (Twitter) that highlights the missing Likes and Captions from posts:

𝕏 has also been ablaze with discussions regarding the issue, with users sharing their experiences and concerns. Some tweets have drawn parallels with recent changes made by 𝕏 to anonymize likes, sparking speculation that Instagram may be considering a similar move.

The widespread nature of these issues suggests a technical glitch directly linked to the latest update rather than individual user settings or device-specific problems. Users have highlighted their experiences across various regions and device types, reinforcing the broad impact of the issue.

However, the problem doesn’t appear to affect all users. For instance, I installed the latest Instagram update on my iOS and Android devices but was still met with the Likes and Captions clearly visible in the home feed and my own profile. This suggests that the bug (or test) might actually be due to a server-side configuration combined with the latest Instagram app. Check out the screenshots from both devices below for reference:

While Instagram has yet to officially comment on the matter, the community continues to speculate on the reasons behind these changes and potential future updates from the platform. Users with Android smartphones can try downgrading to older versions of Instagram by grabbing an APK file from here.

As usual, I’ll keep a close eye on the situation and will post an update if and when there’s any new development or workarounds. So consider bookmarking this page for reference later.
