For several days now, a growing number of Spotify users have been hitting a wall with the mobile app. They can’t view their playlists or play any songs. The trouble kicked off about three days ago, and it’s been a headache for people, especially those on Android devices.
The issues are pretty consistent across reports. Playlists show up as empty, even when they’re packed with songs. When users try to play a track, it might pop up for a second before vanishing, leaving nothing but silence. One frustrated user said, “I can’t play a single song, and all my playlists are empty. have already reinstalled the app.” Another user posted, “I wanted to listen to some music my Spotify first crashed and when I tried to turn the playlist back on, it looked like it was empty. And that’s with all playlists I have.”
Here’s a screenshot of a playlist that shows up as empty, even though it technically isn’t:
Interestingly, the problem seems tied to the mobile app. Users have noticed that the desktop version and web player work just fine. This has some folks guessing it could be a glitch from a recent update or a server issue hitting mobile users harder. Reinstalling the app, which is usually a go-to fix, isn’t helping most people. One user vented, “Reinstallation is not a confirmed fix. It doesn’t help at all.”
I wasn’t able to replicate the problem on any of my Android devices. Every playlist loaded up just fine. That said, Spotify has stepped in to say they’re aware of the situation. A community moderator posted that the team is looking into it and suggested reinstalling the app from the Play Store.
But the response from users has been loud and clear — that fix isn’t cutting it for everyone. Some have found ways around the mess, like creating a fresh account or switching to the web version on their phones. Those options work for a few, but they’re a hassle for anyone with years of playlists and settings tied to their original account.
The outage is hitting hard for people who lean on Spotify every day. Whether it’s for a commute, work focus, or just unwinding, the app’s problems are throwing off routines. Users are growing impatient, and while Spotify says they’re on the case, there’s no word yet on when things will be back to normal. For now, affected listeners are stuck waiting, hoping their music comes back soon.
