WhatsApp is getting a brain upgrade, or rather, Meta AI is about to start remembering things like your vegan diet, love for sci-fi books, and that one time you mentioned being allergic to peanuts. Yup, AI is about to get personal — at least, that’s what the latest WhatsApp beta suggests.

Meta is rolling out a new memory feature for its AI chatbot, which is set to appear in future updates of the app. In the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.22.9, spotted by WABetaInfo, there’s a glimpse of what might be a game-changing feature: the ability for Meta AI to retain memory of conversations. No more awkwardly repeating the same preferences over and over! This new ability means Meta AI can tailor its responses based on previous interactions, like remembering whether you like formal conversations or your favorite go-to podcasts.

What’s new in this update? As seen in the preview screenshots below, Meta AI is slated to start holding onto bits of information you share during conversations, such as your birthday or dietary preferences. Picture asking for a recipe recommendation and not having to say “Hey, I’m vegan, remember?” — Meta AI already knows.

This feature is still under development, but once it rolls out, you can expect Meta AI to give you highly personalized recommendations. Think of it as your own virtual assistant that actually remembers the little details, making chats feel less like you’re talking to a robot and more like you’re engaging with an assistant who gets you.

Previously, WhatsApp beta 2.24.18.18 hinted at a “voice chat mode” for Meta AI, allowing users to ditch typing for voice-controlled conversations. Meta seems determined to make interactions with AI more natural, and this memory feature is the next big step in making Meta AI feel less like a bot and more like a helpful assistant. Maybe someday, Meta AI will remember more about your favorite shows than you do.

For anyone worried about sharing too much, Meta AI’s memory isn’t a one-way street. Users will have full control over what it remembers. If you’d rather not have Meta AI remind you about that time you binge-watched reality TV, you can easily delete or update what it remembers about you. So, while Meta AI may be smart, you’re still the one in charge.

By remembering past interactions, Meta AI is stepping up the personalization game. Whether it’s recommending a podcast you’re bound to love or reminding you of an upcoming event, this memory feature is designed to make interactions more fluid and intuitive.

The rollout date for the chat memory feature hasn’t been set in stone, but stay tuned for updates as it moves closer to a public release. Meta AI is getting a little smarter, and WhatsApp chats might just start feeling a lot more personal.
