Motorola users have something big to look forward to. The company is gearing up to roll out Android 15, and this update is set to include two much-requested features: Google’s Theft Detection Lock and enhanced lock screen customization. After missing out on these with Android 14, Motorola seems to be making sure its users don’t miss out again.
Theft Protection coming with Android 15?
Google launched the Theft Protection feature a few months ago, bringing a new layer of security to Android devices. This feature essentially locks the phone if it detects it has been stolen, making it a crucial update for users who value their data security. While Motorola users expected to see this feature with Android 14, it was notably absent for many. Now, Motorola confirms that Theft Detection Lock will indeed be part of the Android 15 package.
Motorola’s team seems confused about the feature too. However, Google did confirm that the function will be available on devices running Android 10 and above in its initial announcement. User reports indicate mixed experiences on various forums, with some devices running Android 14 already showing Theft Detection Lock, while others still lack it entirely. A few others claim that they can see the feature but it’s disabled on their phones due to lack of support.
Finally, lock screen customization
Motorola users have also been vocal about missing out on lock screen customization in Android 14. The feature, which allows users to personalize their lock screens with widgets, shortcuts, and other tweaks, has become increasingly popular across Android. Now, Motorola has confirmed that Android 15 will bring this option to its devices, finally allowing users to make their lock screens their own.
Hello UI for Edge models
Alongside these features, Motorola is also bringing its revamped Hello UI to several devices, including the Edge 40, Edge 40 Neo, and Edge 30 Ultra. This UI overhaul aims to enhance user experience and give Motorola devices a fresh, modern look. If you’re unfamiliar with the new skin, I’d suggest checking out this video:
While not all Motorola phones will get Android 15, models like the Razr 2024, Razr 50, and the Moto Edge lineup are confirmed to be eligible since they’ll be getting at least 2 major OS updates. Furthermore, many older Motorola phones won’t be getting Hello UI either. You can also check out this unofficial list of eligible Motorola devices for the Android 15 update. For those waiting on these features, the update is a welcome improvement to Motorola’s software offering.
