Some Pixel 6 and 6 Pro users are reporting that their phones have become unusable after installing the Android 15 update. The devices either stop responding entirely or fail to turn back on, leaving many owners frustrated and searching for solutions.
Some users believe the issue is linked to Android 15’s Private Space feature. A Reddit user shared that their Pixel 6 bricked immediately after enabling the feature: “I unlocked the private space area, opened an app I installed in it, and it bricked my Pixel 6. I can’t turn the phone on or reboot it using the methods provided by Google. It’s completely dead.”
Others echoed similar experiences, reporting that their phones became unresponsive shortly after enabling the same feature. For some, even holding down the power and volume buttons or draining the battery didn’t bring the devices back to life.
However, the issue isn’t exclusive to those using the Private Space feature. Some Pixel 6 owners have reported sudden failures even days after updating to Android 15. One user mentioned that their phone died with no warning while the battery was still at 45%. “I tried plugging it in, but it didn’t react. None of Google’s troubleshooting steps have worked so far,” the user explained.
At the time of writing, Google has not officially addressed these new reports. A few months ago, Pixel 6 users faced a similar situation where their devices were bricking after factory resetting the device. However, this doesn’t seem to be the same thing. That said, not all users are experiencing the same bug. Some claim that they’ve enabled Private Space on their Pixel 6 series devices with no issues.
Apart from some users left with bricked phones, a handful of Pixel 6 series users are also reporting that their devices keep rebooting randomly after installing Android 15. This, however, isn’t entirely a new thing. Pixel owners have often complained about their devices restarting out of the blue. We’ve got a few tips on how you can handle a similar situation.
This isn’t the first time a major update has caused problems for Pixel devices. A similar issue affected Pixel 6 and 6a models last year after Android 14, resulting in devices stuck in boot loops. Given the growing number of reports, if you own a Pixel 6, we’d suggest proceeding with caution when updating to Android 15, especially if you plan to enable new features like Private Space. As one commenter put it, “After the pretty widespread android 14 storage issue last fall, pixel 6 users should probably be backing everything up.” For now, affected users can only hope Google releases a software patch soon to address the issue.
