Samsung’s Galaxy AI has become a focal point of confusion for customers after conflicting statements emerged about its long-term pricing. While official documents and product pages state that Galaxy AI features will remain free “until the end of 2025,” a Samsung community manager recently claimed that they were informed that there are “no plans to charge” for these services at the moment.
The uncertainty began with the Galaxy S24 launch in early 2024, when fine print on Samsung’s website noted that AI tools like live translation, photo editing, and Circle to Search would be free only until December 31, 2025. This disclaimer reappeared in promotions for the 2025 Galaxy S25 series, sparking concerns that users might face subscription fees for core AI features after that date.
These worries intensified when a Galaxy S25 Ultra buyer raised the issue on Samsung’s community forum last week. The user argued that locking AI features behind a paywall could devalue the device, comparing it to “buying a car with heated seats you can’t use without a subscription.” In response, a Samsung community manager stated “Samsung has advised us that at this time, there are no plans to charge for these services,” contradicting the 2025 timeline mentioned in official materials.
Naturally, this is pretty confusing for fans. But it seems like all this might simply be the result of a lapse in internal communication. The community manager said the same thing last year too. If you take a closer look at their wording, they mention: “at this time.” This might simply mean that Samsung has no plans on charging for Galaxy AI services right now, which is correct.
However, it doesn’t seem to be confirmation that Samsung doesn’t have any plans to charge for Galaxy AI features in the future. In fact, the company is already on the verge of launching its ‘AI Subscription Club,’ a service that’ll let users take home select AI-powered devices for a subscription fee rather than an outright payment. So it’s not hard to believe that Samsung will also start charging for certain Galaxy AI features, especially those that require cloud processing.
So unless there’s an intense backlash against the move, Samsung will most likely follow through with its plans of charging for certain Galaxy AI features after the end of the year.
