Samsung is apparently exploring the possibility of adding flash support for ultra-wide photos on its Galaxy smartphones. This comes after numerous inquiries from users who want to use the flash while capturing wider shots.
A moderator from Samsung’s Korean forums recently responded to a question about this feature, acknowledging the ongoing discussions within the company. The moderator explained that the current setup does not support flash on the ultra-wide camera due to some potential issues that might crop up. This wide angle can cause problems like the surroundings appearing too dark in photos. However, Samsung is looking into ways to enhance this function to improve user experience.
Despite this, the moderator cautioned that no timeline has been established for when or if this feature will be implemented. “We are conducting a multi-faceted review with the department in charge,” the moderator said. “However, please understand that it is difficult to give a definitive answer due to technology and environmental factors.”
Many users have expressed frustration over the lack of flash support for ultra-wide shots. Comments from Galaxy S series users on forums indicate a strong desire for this feature, especially among those who often photograph events or gatherings. Users have pointed out that while third-party apps like Instagram and Snapchat allow flash with ultra-wide photos, the default Samsung camera app does not.
Some users believe that the absence of this feature limits creativity, especially for those who enjoy taking selfies or portraits using the ultra-wide lens. One user noted that they resort to using social media apps for flash support, stating, “I think it’s a cool, candid, old point-and-shoot look.”
