Sony’s Xperia division has been keeping fans on their toes with playful and colorful hints on X (formerly Twitter). In mid-November, the official Xperia Japan account asked followers which Xperia model they thought had the best color. The post listed some of the brand’s standout shades like Xperia 5 V’s Blue, Xperia 10 V’s Sage Green, and Xperia 1 VI’s Scarlet, and even managed to sneak in Xperia 10 VI’s classic Black. The social media team encouraged fans to dive into the comments with their picks, sparking a lively debate.

Fast forward to now, and the same account has upped the ante. They quote-reposted their original color query with an even more direct question: “What colors would you like to see released?” The options included Gold, Pink, Green, and an open-ended “Other,” inviting fans to dream big. Could Sony be on the verge of introducing something fresh to the Xperia lineup? Or are we looking at another refresh, much like the Scarlet Red-colored Xperia 1 VI that joined the fold just a few weeks ago?

The Xperia 1 VI, Sony’s flagship device launched in May 2024, has seen a burst of vibrancy with the recent addition of Scarlet Red. While this isn’t the first time Sony has refreshed an existing model with new colors, the timing of Xperia Japan’s social media posts adds an extra layer of intrigue. Is this crowd-sourced color brainstorming for next year’s Xperia 1 VII now that there’s no sign of the Xperia 5 VI? Or is it another marketing move to inject excitement into their current lineup?

Given that smartphone development cycles run months — if not years — ahead of launches, it’s plausible that the colors fans vote for today could influence future flagship designs. However, Xperia Japan’s cryptic approach leaves the door wide open for speculation.

Sony’s latest posts come at an interesting time. Android 15 is already rolling out to Xperia 1 VI devices, alongside features like the Video Pro camera mode that’s keeping content creators happy. While some fans are laser-focused on software updates, others can’t help but speculate on what hardware surprises Sony might have up its sleeve.

Could these new colors be tied to the Xperia 1 VII? Or perhaps a new mid-range entry like the Xperia 10 series? Sony isn’t saying just yet. But if past moves are anything to go by, don’t rule out the possibility of another Scarlet-style refresh before we see the next-gen Xperia flagship.

What do you think? Gold, Pink, or something completely wild? Let us know in the comments!
