Spotify Wrapped is usually one of the most anticipated features of the year for music lovers. But this year, many users are left unimpressed. Social media and Reddit threads are flooded with complaints about the 2024 edition feeling lackluster, with fewer stats, less variety, and some glaring omissions compared to previous years.

The criticism kicked off almost immediately after Wrapped dropped. On Reddit, some described it as “zero effort” and “anti-climactic.” Others called it “basic,” saying it felt like something you could pull from a third-party app like stats.fm. For a feature that’s supposed to be a personalized celebration of a listener’s year in music, that’s harsh feedback.

One of the biggest letdowns? The noticeable lack of detail. Last year, Wrapped delivered around 20 cards filled with fun stats, such as the number of genres you explored and which cities had listeners with similar tastes to yours. This year? Just about half that amount. Key highlights like genre exploration and quirky location-based insights are gone entirely. “I was most excited to see what my location would be, but they never showed,” shared one user.

Someone even shared a comparison of the number of cards in Spotify Wrapped 2023 and 2024:

Many also pointed out the lack of new features. While previous years added elements like listening personality types or artist video clips, 2024 Wrapped felt stagnant. To make matters worse, users reported getting far fewer artist videos than before. “I only got three,” one person noted, while others said they got none at all.

Another sore spot was accuracy. Some listeners report Wrapped’s stats were completely off. “Spotify said my top track was one I barely listened to,” a Reddit user complained, cross-referencing their Spotify data with last.fm. Others reported entire artists missing from their year-end playlists, even though they dominated their listening habits. Some speculated that Spotify stopped counting plays earlier than usual, cutting off months of data.

Speculation about why Wrapped feels so different is also swirling. Some users blamed Spotify’s layoffs earlier this year, including engineers who reportedly worked on the genre system. A Spotify engineer who worked on genre classification before getting laid off, took to Bluesky to dunk on Spotify’s half-baked attempt at Wrapped this year.

Touching to have Spotify celebrate the 1-year anniversary of my layoff by demonstrating that they could not, in fact, still do Wrapped just as well without me.

For many, this year’s Wrapped didn’t feel worth the hype. “It’s my favorite day of the year,” one Spotify user confessed, “but this time, I felt nothing. It was just… meh.” Others said they were embarrassed to share their Wrapped cards because they lacked interesting insights or felt too generic.

Here are some more user reactions on X for reference:

Spotify has yet to comment on the backlash, but fans are hoping the company takes note for 2025. Wrapped has always been about more than just numbers — it’s a way to celebrate and share your personal music journey. And this year, for a lot of people, it didn’t hit the right note. Not all hope is lost though. You can still have some fun by letting AI roast your Spotify Wrapped.

That said, I’d like to hear your thoughts on this year’s Spotify Wrapped. Were you happy with the stats or do you feel Wrapped 2024 didn’t live up to the hype? Let me know in the comments section below.
