Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 seems to be off to a rough start, at least for those looking to play the multiplayer mode. Many frustrated players have taken to platforms like Reddit and Steam to report that they aren’t able to play co-op because they get stuck on an infinite loading screen.
While a majority of reports indicate that the issue is happening primarily on PS5 consoles, I have spotted reports from frustrated players on Xbox and PC too. According to the complaints, players can’t join each other’s game because players get stuck on the loading page that doesn’t progress.
One Reddit user claimed, “My friend and I are trying to play coop and unfortunately once we board the thunderhawk we black screen then we are back on the battlebarge with no way to quit pause or anything but we can move around.”
Affected players say that they tried various workarounds, with mixed results. Some report success by rebooting the game, though this doesn’t seem to work for everyone. A user on Xbox mentioned trying to reboot “like 3 times” without success.
However, one player said “To invite friends it was similar, I had to be loaded into the mission already in progress for my friend to actually be able to join. When we tried to invite each other before starting the mission, it never worked.” So you might want to this potential workaround a shot to see if it helps you get in the game with your squad.
Another workaround involves using the PvP lobby as a staging ground. “A fix for this issue myself and friends had during the campaign loading screens was one person goes into PvP lobby, invites us all and it works then switch to campaign once everyone is joined,” shared a player.
The issue isn’t just preventing players from joining games; it’s also affecting progress tracking. Some users report that only the host’s progress is saved, leaving joining players to replay missions they’ve already completed.
“I played with my friend and only his story got done leaving me at the first level,” one frustrated player commented.
Unfortunately, there’s no official statement from the developers addressing these co-op issues at the time of this writing. However, given the number of reports that have been popping up in the past few hours, it’s likely that the issue will be resolved sooner rather than later.
Speaking of things being resolved, the game’s official roadmap suggests that ultrawide resolution support will be coming with the free Season 1 upgrade soon. At present, the game adds black bars to the screen if you have ultrawide monitors. So it’s good to see the team working on shortcomings from the get-go. We’ll keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there are any further developments.
