Some Waze users are in for a treat with the latest update as the app now lets you see its map and turn-by-turn directions right on your car’s instrument cluster. This is a game-changer if you want to keep your eyes on the road while still getting real-time traffic updates and alerts. The feature works in certain car models from BMW, Polestar, Ford, and others, and it’s all part of the new Waze update, version 5.4.

So how does this work? It’s powered by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the systems that connect your phone to your car’s display. Right now, only CarPlay users can use this feature, but Android Auto support should be coming soon. If your car already shows navigation apps like Apple Maps on the instrument cluster, it’ll likely work with Waze too. Just make sure your Waze app is updated to v5.4.

This new functionality was spotted by u/misterperfectman who posted on Reddit saying, “Just wanted to share that since the latest update (v5.4), I am able to see the Waze map from CarPlay on my instrument cluster.” Another user added some clarity, saying, “Waze was not allowing itself to be displayed there. 5.4.0 is the first public version to provide this feature.”

This isn’t about updating your car’s software — it’s a Waze app update. If your vehicle supports this kind of integration, just grab the latest version from the App Store or wait for it to hit the Google Play Store. For BMW owners, it looks like iDrive 8 or later is needed. Ford drivers with SYNC 4 and Polestar owners with the latest software should be good to go too. But older systems might not cut it. One user noted, “Just tried it on ID7 and no change, so I guess it was left out.”

Not every car will support this yet, and it doesn’t work on heads-up displays (HUD) in models like BMW. That could change later, though. For now, it’s all about the instrument cluster. Compatible cars include models like the Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E, where Apple Maps already shows up on the dashboard.

Want to try it? Update Waze to 5.4 and plug in your phone. If it works, let us know! Share your car model, year, and software version. This helps others figure out if their ride can handle it too. With this update, Waze is making navigation safer and easier, bringing its real-time data right where you need it — front and center.
