Restarted my device. The app loaded for 2 seconds then closed again

YouTube users on Android are running into crashes after the latest app update, with reports flooding in from Reddit and X. Many are finding that the app won’t open at all, kicking them out immediately after launch.
A Reddit user started a thread saying, “Everytime I click YouTube on my phone it kicks me off the app.” Others chimed in with similar issues, even after trying common troubleshooting steps like clearing cache, clearing data, and reinstalling the app. One user, Ok-Reflection9914, noted that YouTube worked fine in a browser, but the app remained unusable.
Another post described the same issue on a Samsung Galaxy S10. They had already wiped cache and data, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but nothing worked. More users replied, confirming the same problem on different devices. You can watch the video shared by the Galaxy S10 user highlighting the problem:

Interestingly, I haven’t been able to replicate the problem on three separate Android phones: Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, and an Infinix GT 20 Pro. I also noticed that most complaints seem to be from users with older Android smartphones like the Reno 3, Galaxy S10, OnePlus 7T, etc.
So it’s possible that the bug might be impacting users with devices running on older Android versions. This could also explain why I haven’t been able to reproduce the bug in my testing. That said, take this with a grain of salt as it’s only early speculation from what I’ve observed.
On X, a user tagged @TeamYouTube about the issue, saying, “I just updated my YouTube app on my Android phone and it outright won’t open.” YouTube’s support team responded with basic troubleshooting steps like restarting the device and signing out, but the user later replied that the app still crashed after a couple of seconds.
The exact cause of the issue isn’t clear yet, but the common factor seems to be the latest update. If you’re affected, you might have to wait for another patch from YouTube. In the meantime, using YouTube in a browser or rolling back to an older version through a third-party APK site like APKMirror could be a temporary fix.
