In recent updates to YouTube on both mobile and desktop platforms, users have noticed the disappearance of two key features: the ability to move videos to the top or bottom of a playlist. Previously, users could tap or click on the three dots next to a video within a playlist and select these options from a menu. However, these features are now missing, leaving many users frustrated and vocal about their dissatisfaction.

The change has sparked a wave of complaints on social media platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Users are questioning YouTube’s decision to remove these functionalities, with many demanding the return of the “Move to top” and “Move to bottom” options in playlists. Some expressed their frustration with the increasing difficulty of managing playlists on YouTube, while others lamented the removal of simple features that they found useful.

The issue has gained enough attention that YouTube support has chimed into the matter and even confirmed that their team is investigating the cause. However, they are encouraging users to continue reporting the issue so they can gather more data and understand the extent of the problem.

In the meantime, users are left with limited workarounds. One suggested solution involves installing a browser extension called Multiselect for YouTube, which claims to restore the missing options. However, success with this workaround has been mixed. For instance, while several YouTube users on Reddit say the extension restored the options to move videos to the top or bottom of the playlist, I had the opposite experience when I installed the extension. The options haven’t returned for me, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try it.

YouTube’s official support page offers an alternative solution: manually dragging and dropping videos within the playlist to reorder them. While functional, this method can be cumbersome, especially for longer playlists.

The removal of these features has significantly impacted the overall YouTube experience, especially for those with extensive playlists. Hopefully YouTube will prioritize user feedback and restore these functionalities promptly since it’s evident that these seemingly small features played a significant role in how users interact with their playlists. For now, users will have to rely on the manual drag-and-drop method or seek out third-party extensions while hoping for a swift resolution from YouTube.

I will continue to monitor this issue and provide the latest information on YouTube’s response.
