YouTube might be giving its comments section a fresh look. A Reddit user posted a screenshot showing what appears to be a redesigned interface for comments on the platform. The new layout uses curved lines and indents to show reply chains, making it clearer to track who’s responding to whom. Users quickly noticed the look is similar to Reddit’s threaded comments.

The post, shared on the r/youtube subreddit, sparked hundreds of upvotes and comments. Users pointed out the cleaner design but had mixed feelings. One top reply with nearly 100 upvotes said, “It’s not bad, although I wish the reply bit was still in blue.” Others agreed, noting YouTube’s recent shift toward simpler colors, like replacing the red subscribe button with a white outline.

Some praised the update for making long threads easier to read. “This will make reply chains so much easier to read!” wrote one user. But not everyone was sold. A few called the redesign a “Reddit ripoff” and questioned why YouTube keeps tweaking its interface instead of fixing issues like ads or bringing back public dislike counts.

The rollout seems limited so far. One user mentioned seeing the new design only on certain videos, with some flipping between the old and new styles. Others said the update only appears on mobile, while the desktop version keeps the classic blue reply buttons. I’ve not yet managed to get this revamped design to show up on my end, but by the looks of it, I actually don’t mind the Reddit-inspired UI.

Speaking of limited testing, the platform recently also announced a host of useful new features that Premium users can opt-in to test for a limited time. YouTube hasn’t officially commented on the test. For now, it’s unclear if the new comments UI will launch widely or get scrapped based on feedback. As with most updates, users will likely have to adapt — whether they like it or not.

If YouTube didn’t cave to the pressure of users wanting back the dislike counter, it’s unlikely we’ll see the platform revert to major changes just because a small portion of users don’t like it.

That said, let me know if you’ve received the new comments UI on your YouTube app, and what are your thoughts on it?
