Update 29/04/25 – 04:00 pm (IST): It seems Bluesky is down for users around the world with reports about an outage coming in from countries like Germany, UK, Korea, India, Portugal, and the US. Apart from a big spike on Downdetector, I also see reports on Reddit and X.

Here are some screenshots I took from each platform for reference:

It’s unclear what’s causing the outage since Bluesky hasn’t made any official statement at the moment. We’ll keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there are any further developments. But you can expect the outage to be resolved soon, like usual.

Original article published on April 17, 2025, follows:

Bluesky appears to be experiencing an outage at the moment. Users are reporting server issues across various regions. Many have flocked to Reddit and X to talk about what’s happening and figure out what’s going on.

The issue seems to have begun roughly an hour ago and is preventing users from accessing their Bluesky feeds or other parts of the app. Some get notifications but run into server errors when they try to use the app.

A Reddit user, u/jmood88, posted, “I’m getting notifications of likes, but when I go to the app, I can’t see anything, and there’s a server error.” Reports are coming in from places like the west coast and east coast of the US, Toronto, and even Europe.

What’s odd is that the outage isn’t hitting everyone the same way. Some users find only one of their accounts is down while others work fine. Another Reddit user, u/MastodonNo2204, wrote, “I have 2 accounts and one account is giving me that [error], and the other one is fine. And my partner’s is fine too.” This has left some people confused. A few even thought they’d been banned at first.

Bluesky’s status page doesn’t really indicate any major outage. Moreover, the company hasn’t said much yet about what’s wrong or when it’ll be fixed. That said, some users have confirmed that the app’s up and running again for them. However, a few others are still facing issues.

For now, the outage drags on. Users are waiting for Bluesky to sort things out. Many are sticking to other platforms to stay in the loop. If you’re affected, Bluesky’s status page might be the best place to check for updates. Judging by reports online, it seems it won’t take long for the service to restore fully.
