If you have landed on this article hoping to find potential workarounds to the Facebook login issues (related to two factor verification) that you have been facing recently, then I’ll try hard not to disappoint you, as I have researched and found multiple such temporary fixes that have worked for users. Sadly, none of these have worked for a large number of people, so your mileage may vary, but anyway, they may be worth giving a try.
Please keep in mind that I haven’t tested any of these as I am not facing any Facebook login problem at the moment.
Potential workarounds to Facebook login verification issues
If you are open to creating a new account temporarily, you can try these steps (suggested by someone on Reddit):
Here’s what I did to fix mine (using my number as 2fa).
- Create a new account
- Use your EXISTING phone number you used for 2fa
- Complete setup.
- Logout
- Login to your old account. 2FA will be disabled.
Moving on, if you already have two accounts, I found multiple people sharing similar workarounds. The following one is from Twitter:
And this is one is from Reddit:
If you already have a second account, you can use this one just activating the two steps authentication: at this point it asks you to put a telephone number to send security codes, and you have to use the same number you put in the blocked profile. Then try access at this second profile, the one that works, from a different browser/pc/smartphone, and facebook will ask for confirmation via sms code. This code will work also with the blocked profile, if the phone number is the same. (Source)
Some other workarounds I found
This workaround is from a user on Reddit. Following is what they say worked for them (and at least one more user confirmed it worked for them as well).
Go to Instagram.
Click your profile pic or name (top right).
Scroll to bottom of the page & click ‘Meta Verified’ link (bottom right).
Click on Profiles on the left side and link your FB account with your Insta account.
Click on ‘Passwords and Security’ (on left).
Click on ‘Saved login’.
Click on ‘Save login details on this device so you don’t have to enter them again’ I am paraphrasing that from memory
From there I either went to ‘Profiles’ or ‘Accounts’ and clicked on my FB account and Voila
Still struggling to login to your Facebook account. Don’t worry, try out the following workaround:
If you have Instagram access, I was able to delete all of my 2FA methods and was able to get in then. That was the only way. It wasn’t letting me for a while, but I finally managed to just delete each method of authentication (will have to add them back eventually) and log in normally. And it did end up working on desktop and mobile both. (Source)
Moving on, here’s the one more workaround I found:
Go to messenger
Click on your own profile
Click on the gear icon
Scroll down and click on See more in Account Centre
Click on password and security
Click on Two Factor Authentication and click on your facebook account
In the tab of [Add a backup method] click on Additional Methods
Click on recovery codes
Complete the steps given
Go back to facebook to login
Click on other methods
Insert the codes listed in your recovery codes
You should be logged in
I also came across reports wherein people said either you need to wait it out, as gradually the problem is getting resolved officially, or keep on trying with the available options. Following is an example:
For people who had 2FA ON is the issue: after you put in your password which it never accepts It will then ask you for 2FA authentication and send you a code via email that never works. The next option will ask you to try another way. One of the choices is to click that you don’t have your phone. It will then ask you to upload a front and back picture of your ID. After that you’re supposed to get an email hopefully saying you’re verified then another email giving you a generated password to use. It’s that last email that never came until today. I had to do this 5 or 6 times and finally worked today. (Source)
Well, that’s it from my side on this matter. In case any of these workarounds helped you, do like the article and also leave a comment. And if you found any other fix that worked for you (and is not listed here), then please share it in the comments section below. Thanks in advance.
