Popular video editing app CapCut has made its return to Apple’s App Store alongside TikTok, following President Trump’s decision to delay the ban on Chinese-owned social media applications in the United States.
The move comes as a relief to content creators who rely on CapCut for their video editing needs. Many users quickly noticed the app’s return and expressed their excitement on social media. “My favorite video editor CapCut is back on apple stores! yay!” shared one user on Threads.
However, the return hasn’t been without its challenges. Some users who previously deleted the app are greeted with a fresh slate and no previous projects. “CapCut is back but I lost all my projects that I worked so hard on. I wish I would’ve never deleted the app and just been patient,” one creator posted, adding “I won’t be discouraged though I will get up and start again.”
It’s also unclear if CapCut is available on the Play Store or not. While news reports mention that it’s back on the App Store and Play Store, we’ve not been able to find reports from users who confirm the same. But it’s highly likely that it’ll be up on the Play Store within a few hours if not already.
The apps’ return follows Trump’s executive order that delayed the enforcement of the ban by 75 days, allowing both TikTok and CapCut to continue their operations in the US temporarily. The original ban was set to take effect on January 19, requiring ByteDance, the Chinese owner of both apps, to sell its US assets or face restrictions.
The situation remains fluid, as Trump has indicated that the 75-day deadline could be extended. The potential sale of TikTok has attracted several interested buyers, including former Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt.
That said, the app’s arrival on the App Store again will put pressure on Instagram to start pushing full steam ahead to release its own ‘Edits’ app that aims to rival CapCut. But all eyes are still on ByteDance as it plans its next move to avoid the potential ban in the US that still looms over its head.
