Many Character AI users are left waiting for the company to fix two big bugs that have persisted for a few days now. Since late last week, the chatbot service has been serving up messages in thick, jagged chunks instead of the gentle word-by-word flow users have come to love. The haptic feedback that once gave each response a soft pulse has also gone quiet, leaving conversations feeling oddly flat.

While we can’t visualize the missing haptics, here’s a video showing the text chunk issue:

Moderators first acknowledged the bugs on August 1 in a short Reddit post, promising the team was “looking into” the mess. At the time, most people figured a quick patch would land over the weekend. But by Monday morning, the glitches were still there, and the goodwill started to thin.

While some users reported temporary improvements after deleting and reinstalling the mobile app, these fixes appear to be short-lived. A Character AI team member posted yesterday that they expected to roll out a fix, but later admitted the attempted solution didn’t resolve the underlying problems.

But these aren’t the only things users are complaining about. Some report receiving gibberish responses, one-word answers that make no sense, and messages stuck in perpetual loading states. A few have encountered login failures when attempting to troubleshoot by signing out and back in. The website has been particularly problematic, with some users unable to access creator profiles due to maintenance warnings.

Character chat styles like Roar and DeepSqueak have also been affected, with users complaining that different modes now feel identical and produce shorter responses than usual. The platform’s “not interested” feature for filtering unwanted bot recommendations has stopped working properly as well.

That said, I couldn’t find any official word on these issues, so it seems the focus is currently on fixing the text chunks, animations, and missing haptics. We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article. In the meantime, feel free to let us know if the bugs have been resolved for you or not.
