ChatGPT appears to have gone offline due to a server outage, affecting thousands of users worldwide. Reports from DownDetector, a service outage tracker, indicate a spike in errors linked to OpenAI’s services, highlighting the widespread nature of the issue. The platform indicates thousands of faced issues with the service starting around 11:45 am (UTC).
X has also been flooded with reports and queries from users confirming the service disruption. This incident has not only disrupted the workflow of many who rely on ChatGPT for tasks ranging from writing emails to academic help but has also sparked a wave of memes and humorous takes on the situation. I’ve added some posts for reference:
ChatGPT is down, so I guess I'll just stare at my screen and pretend I'm waiting for a response. #ChatGPTDown

Technical details of the outage are scarce, but posts on X mention errors like “503 service temporarily unavailable,” suggesting server-side issues. On my end, I see a “Bad gateway” error when trying to access ChatGPT.
OpenAI has yet to release an official statement or an estimated time for when services will resume. Until then, users are left to navigate their tasks without their AI assistant, turning to alternative methods or, as some posts suggest, to their own mental faculties.
