Dead by Daylight players on Xbox are hitting a major snag: their cross-play setting has mysteriously switched off, and they can’t seem to turn it back on. This unannounced change is leaving many Xbox players in the lurch, unable to team up with friends on other platforms. It’s basically cutting them off from a huge chunk of the game’s community.
Reports started popping up early this morning all over X and Reddit. Players firing up the popular horror game found the cross-play option greyed out in their settings. “Loaded in today and crossplay was disabled and cannot be altered,” one user, FistMeBrotherrrrr, posted on Reddit. “I have never had this issue before.”
This is a pretty big deal for Dead by Daylight, where playing with your buddies, no matter what console they’re on, is a core part of the fun. The problem seems to be an Xbox-only thing, at least for now. While a few players mentioned cross-play briefly coming back after restarting their game, others quickly found themselves booted from lobbies or completely unable to join matches.
“I restarted the game it fixed the cross play but I couldn’t even stay in the lobby without it kicking me out earlier,” shared ant1s0cialtete, another Xbox player. Meanwhile, Switch players confirmed their cross-play was still working just fine.
There’s no official word yet from Behaviour Interactive about what’s causing this sudden outage. This silence is naturally leading to a lot of guesswork and frustration among players. Many are wondering if it’s a server issue specifically affecting Xbox, or maybe just an accidental hiccup from a recent update.
This isn’t just about playing with friends, either. Turning off cross-play also messes with matchmaking incentives and how long it takes to find a game, since those rely on a much bigger pool of players. Without being able to turn it back on, Xbox players are kind of stuck, disconnected from the wider Dead by Daylight world.
We’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update the article if there’s something to share. In the meantime, feel free to share your experience with cross-play in the comments below.
