As Android 15 begins rolling out to Pixel devices, there’s an important warning for users of the Dexcom G7, G6, and Stelo CGM systems: don’t hit that update button just yet. Dexcom has confirmed that none of their apps are compatible with Android 15 — or iOS 18 for that matter. These include Dexcom G6 CGM App, Dexcom Follow App, Dexcom CLARITY App, Dexcom G7 App and G6 App as well as Stelo by Dexcom. This could lead to serious issues like losing connection to your CGM, which could affect real-time glucose monitoring. While it’s understandable that bugs can pop up with a new operating system, Dexcom users are particularly vulnerable since they rely on these systems to manage diabetes.

It’s somewhat surprising that Dexcom isn’t ready for Android 15 and iOS 18, considering that developers had access to these systems for months. Many users depend on these apps to monitor their health, and any signal loss between the CGM and their devices could pose a risk. Dexcom advises users to decline the updates until a fix is rolled out– which they say will be “in the coming months.” Unfortunately, that’s not super helpful for those eager to know what Android 15 has to offer.

The company recommends a number of temporary solutions if you’ve already updated your device. These include keeping your phone close to the sensor and avoiding obstacles like walls or water between them, as well as toggling Bluetooth off and on. Not exactly a stress-free experience, especially when all you want is a smooth health-monitoring system.

Interestingly, some users who have been on the Android 15 beta report that their Dexcom apps work just fine. It seems the main holdup might be more about the company securing FDA approval for the new operating systems rather than an actual technical problem. But until Dexcom gives the all-clear, it’s best to stick with the old OS to avoid potential disruptions.

I’ve been using the official Dexcom app while on the Android 15 Beta for months with zero issues.

The “problem” is that Dexcom hasn’t shown the FDA that their app is compatible with Android 15, so it hasn’t been approved yet, so they can’t legally say it works even though it does. Which is why they made that ridiculous statement: to cover their ass.

With security updates and new features often bundled with these new releases, many users are understandably frustrated at having to delay the upgrade. If you’re among them, it might be worth waiting for Dexcom to sort things out before jumping ship — or at least until your sensor cycle is over.

In short, proceed with caution. While some Dexcom users have managed just fine, others may run into frustrating connectivity problems. Better safe than sorry.
