Discord is rolling out yet another playful feature called Emoji Confetti, and it’s here to turn your ordinary messages into dazzling, confetti-filled celebrations. Whether you’re celebrating a gaming victory, making a big announcement, or just spreading some joy, Emoji Confetti is your new go-to tool for making messages pop. But before you get too carried away celebrating your latest gaming victory, there are a few things you should know.
What is Emoji Confetti?
Think of Emoji Confetti as an upgrade to your standard emoji reactions. Instead of simply slapping a thumbs-up on a message, you can now explode it with emoji confetti — a vibrant, animated effect that adds personality and pizzazz to any chat. Whether you’re hyping up a big gaming milestone, marking an important announcement, or just feeling extra, Emoji Confetti is here to make messages pop.
How to use Emoji Confetti
Getting started is easy — if you’re one of the lucky users who has access. Here’s how it works:
- Find a message you want to shower with confetti.
- Hover over it and select the Add Emoji Confetti icon (or find it in the lower-right corner of your text box while typing).
- Choose an emoji from the emoji picker.
- Send your message or apply confetti to an existing one.
- Hover over the emoji to trigger the explosion!
Discord notes that you’ll start with two free Emoji Confetti to try out. But after that, Discord is ready to cash in — additional packs of five Emoji Confetti cost $0.99.
Who can see and use Emoji Confetti?
- 99% of users can see them, but only 1% can currently buy them — meaning this is still in its experimental phase.
- Everyone in the server can see Emoji Confetti applied to messages.
- However, the explosion effect only triggers for the person who hovers over the confetti emoji.
Customization and accessibility
Not a fan of surprise confetti showers? Discord has you covered. If you prefer a more low-key experience, you can disable motion effects by heading to User Settings > Accessibility and toggling Enable Reduced Motion.
It’s worth noting that once you add Emoji Confetti to a message, it’s stuck there forever — no do-overs, no swaps. And if you buy confetti, don’t expect a refund. Discord’s policy states that all Emoji Confetti purchases are non-refundable.
Whether Emoji Confetti will stick around after the experimental phase is still up in the air. As an experimental feature, Emoji Confetti might disappear in the future, and any unused confetti in your inventory could expire. So if you’re in the test group, now’s the time to enjoy it while it lasts!
While Emoji Confetti is Discord’s latest attempt to make messages more interactive and fun, it also signals another step toward microtransactions in chats. No doubt that dropping confetti bombs on messages is amusing, but the idea of paying for it? That’s where things get interesting. Will users embrace this new monetized fun, or will Discord need to rethink its approach? Only time will tell.
For now, if you’re in the test group, go ahead and blast some confetti.
