Discord’s Soundmoji feature got a somewhat lukewarm reception, but this isn’t stopping them. The company is spicing up voice and video calls with a brand-new experimental feature — Voice Filters. Currently available to a limited group of users on Windows desktop, this feature is designed to make conversations more engaging, fun, and expressive. If you’re among the lucky ones with early access, here’s everything you need to know about using Voice Filters, enabling and disabling them, and what to expect moving forward.

Voice Filters modify your voice in real-time during calls, adding a playful touch to interactions. Whether you want to sound like a robot, add a deep bass effect, or create an echo, these filters give you the power to change your sound instantly.

Some filters are always free, while others require a Nitro subscription for full access. Keep in mind that mic quality plays a role in how clear these filters sound, so if you’re experiencing issues, switching to a better microphone may improve clarity.

How to use Voice Filters on Discord

If you have access to this feature, follow these steps to enable a Voice Filter:

  1. Click the drop-down arrow located at the bottom-left of the Discord app, next to the mic icon.

How to enable or disable playback

Playback lets you hear yourself with the voice filter applied in real-time but with a slight delay. This is useful if you want to know how others will hear you.

    • To enable playback: After selecting a voice filter, tap the ear icon to turn on audio playback.

How to remove a Voice Filter

If you no longer want to use a voice filter:

    1. Open Microphone Settings by clicking the drop-down arrow next to the mic icon.
    2. Tap the X button on the active voice filter banner to disable it.

How to enable this feature if you don’t have it

As of now, Voice Filters are in an experimental phase and are only available to select Windows desktop users. If you don’t see the feature yet, you may have to wait for a wider rollout. In the meantime, keep your Discord app updated to ensure you receive it when it becomes available.

How to disable this feature if you don’t like it

If Voice Filters become widely available and you prefer not to use them, simply avoid selecting any filters in Microphone Settings. Discord does not apply filters by default, so unless you manually enable one, your voice will remain unaltered.

Discord’s Voice Filters add a new layer of creativity to voice and video calls, making them more dynamic and entertaining. While the feature is still in testing, users with access can start experimenting now. If you have feedback, Discord encourages sharing thoughts in their feedback forum to help refine the feature.
