It’s official. Discord’s Guilds are no more. After a short run as an experimental feature, the platform has pulled the plug on these exclusive gaming communities. Guilds were introduced to help gamers build tight-knit groups.

They came with small servers capped at 200 members, special branding options, and an application process to join. Members could show off custom tags and badges on their profiles, giving their crew a unique identity across Discord. The idea was to bring players who game together often into a closer, more personal space.

The decision to end Guilds came last month when Discord announced the experiment was wrapping up. Now, users are noticing that Guild tags have vanished from profiles, marking the feature’s full retirement. The change has sparked all sorts of reactions from the Discord community.

Plenty of folks are glad to see Guilds go. They point to problems like people selling access to these exclusive groups, which sparked a shady black market and even some scams. For some, these headaches drowned out the original goal of building stronger gaming bonds. Still, others liked what Guilds brought to the table. They enjoyed the sense of community and the special perks that made their groups stand out.

Even though Guilds are history, Discord isn’t tossing everything out. The company has suggested that some parts of the experiment might pop up again in new ways. This could mean fresh options for server customization or tools to create smaller groups within Discord’s massive network. The platform is no stranger to trying out new ideas and tweaking them based on what users think.

Dropping Guilds seems to fit that pattern as Discord figures out what clicks with its millions of users. For now, Guild members will need to lean on regular server features or wait for whatever Discord dreams up next to keep their squads connected.
