iPhone users are dealing with a maddening new problem that’s turned their daily scroll through Facebook into a music-killing nightmare. According to many reports, every time someone closes or switches away from the Facebook app, whatever audio is playing in the background just stops.

This isn’t just affecting a handful of people. Users across multiple Reddit threads, Apple Discussion forums, and Facebook groups are reporting the same frustrating experience. Whether it’s Spotify, Apple Music, podcasts, or even YouTube playing in the background, the audio cuts out the moment Facebook gets minimized. Some users are experiencing it on iOS 18 builds, while others are facing the same problem on iOS 26 builds too. This clearly indicates that the problem isn’t caused by iOS itself.

People with everything from the iPhone 13 to the iPhone 16 Pro and even the older iPhone XR are running into this mess. One Reddit user pointed out something interesting: Facebook might be abusing the media playback API to keep the app active in the background, similar to how Meta got caught misusing the VoIP API in the past.

The frustrating part here is that the music stops even when users aren’t watching videos on Facebook. Just opening the app, scrolling for a few seconds, and closing it is enough to kill the audio. One user reported that disabling autoplay for videos and photos in Facebook settings fixed the problem temporarily, but another user said that the solution didn’t work for them at all.

Multiple users mentioned the problem started about three to four days ago, coinciding with a Facebook app update. Several people have already reported the bug to both Facebook and Spotify, though responses have been minimal so far.

I’d suggest using Facebook in a browser until a fix arrives. This should let you scroll through your Facebook feed without having to sacrifice listening to music.

I’ll keep an eye out for any further developments and will update this article once there’s something to share. In the meantime, feel free to drop a comment below to let us know if you’ve found any better workaround. Thanks in advance!
