Mozilla is making changes to Firefox that users have been asking for. Soon, you’ll be able to hide the extensions button from the toolbar if you prefer a cleaner look. The button won’t be gone forever, though. You’ll still be able to access it through the main menu when needed.
When you install a new extension or if an extension needs extra permissions, the button will temporarily reappear to alert you. Mozilla says this is to make sure you don’t miss anything important about your extensions. You’ll also still be able to pin individual extensions directly to the toolbar, just like now.
This update is apparently part of Mozilla’s ongoing efforts to give users more control over how they customize Firefox. Alan Byrne, a product manager at Mozilla, shared the news in a community post. He explained that Mozilla is listening to user feedback and wants to improve the experience for those who rely on add-ons. The ability to hide the extensions button is just the first step.
Many Firefox users have voiced their frustrations about being forced to keep the button visible. Some want the option to manage their extensions like they used to, with a cleaner interface. Others have suggested making it easier to organize extensions by dragging and dropping them or even grouping them into categories.
Byrne acknowledged that the changes may not be perfect for everyone right away. Mozilla sees this as a work in progress and is asking for more feedback from users to get it right.
For users who have dozens of extensions, the ability to manage them more efficiently seems to be a welcome change based on the comments under the post. That said, this isn’t the only improvement underway. A few days ago, the team also announced that they’re revamping the address bar. This came shortly after Mozilla released the sidebar and vertical tabs features for users on the stable builds.
No official release date for this update has been announced yet, but it’s clear that Mozilla is on the grind trying to keep Firefox relevant in the age where dozens of other browsers each offer their own unique features.
