Imagine relying on your fitness tracker to wake you up quietly for a 6 AM workout, only to find the alarm never went off. For many Fitbit Charge 6 users, this has become a frustrating reality. A bug introduced in a firmware update around March has left a core feature, the recurring alarm, partially broken for months.

The problem started after a routine update. Users noticed their recurring alarms, which they depend on for daily routines like waking up for work or taking medication, suddenly appeared differently on the device’s screen. Instead of the usual yellow icon indicating an active alarm, they were met with a greyed-out clock face with an ‘X’ through it. This change has understandably caused widespread confusion and anxiety. Is the alarm on or off? For many, it was a game of Russian roulette with their morning schedule.

Fitbit’s community forums and Reddit threads quickly filled with complaints from concerned owners of the Charge 6 and even some Inspire 3 users who experienced the same issue. The initial advice from Fitbit moderators was standard troubleshooting: delete the alarm, create a new one, or even clear all user data from the device.

However, these suggestions often proved fruitless. One user expressed their frustration after following the advice, which led to more problems.

Not only did this wipe my Fitbit and didn’t fix the problem – I still can’t use recurring alarms, they’re grey – now I can’t get any app notifications either.

While Fitbit support acknowledged the problem in early April, assuring users that their team was “working to resolve it as soon as possible,” the fix has been slow to materialize.

As weeks turned into months, the patience of many users wore thin. Another user commented on the perceived lack of urgency from the company. Another user commented on the perceived lack of urgency from the company.

It’s being over a month and they still fail to fix this issue ……

The core of the issue seems to be a confusing user interface change, though some users have reported their alarms failing to go off entirely. The OP, who first raised the alarm (pun intended) back in March, recently provided an update in early June. They discovered that the alarms do seem to work despite the grey icon, calling it “the worst design given the other alarms are red for off and yellow for on.”

While some users have found relief through a full factory reset, others report this drastic step either didn’t work or created new problems. For now, many Fitbit users are left with a feature that is, at best, confusing and, at worst, unreliable, wondering when a proper fix for their smart device will finally arrive.
