If you’re among the adventurous souls running the Android 15 Beta on your Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, or Pixel 6 Pro, you might have noticed that your “Now Playing” feature has not been working accordingly. This feature, which usually identifies songs playing nearby, has been MIA since Android 15 Beta 4, and the silence has persisted through the recent Beta 4.1 hotfix that addressed call dropping issues.
Since Android 15 Beta 4, some of you have reported Now Playing malfunctioning, refusing to recognize the jams that soundtrack your life. No automatic song detection, no helpful search button to identify those mystery tunes — just crickets (or maybe silence, since the music isn’t playing).
The good news? Google is aware of the issue and a fix is on the horizon. On July 29, they marked the bug report in the Issue Tracker as “Fixed” and promised a resolution in an “upcoming release.” However, the recently rolled out Beta 4.1 hotfix didn’t deliver the Now Playing revival we were all hoping for.
There’s a silver lining, though. Pixel 8 users seem to be spared this musical misery, so it appears the gremlins are targeting the Pixel 6 series specifically. However, there are also a few reports from Pixel 7 series users facing the same problem.
While we don’t have a confirmed date for the fix, it’s likely to be in the “next build,” which could potentially be the stable version of Android 15. In the meantime, hang tight and keep an ear out for updates.
And if you’re on Pixel 7 or 8 and experiencing Now Playing woes, feel free to add your voice to the chorus in the Issue Tracker. There’s always strength in numbers, and maybe Google will send out a search party to investigate your isolated incidents.
In the grand scheme of beta testing, glitches like these are the price of innovation. They remind us that being on the cutting edge sometimes means dealing with a few bumps along the way. For now, Pixel 6 users can rest easy knowing a fix is on the way. And hey, at least your phone’s silence gives you a chance to belt out your favorite songs without fear of judgment.
