Samsung’s One UI 6.1 update, touted for its AI-powered features and interface improvements, has hit a snag. While the rollout for the Galaxy S22 series has been temporarily halted due to reports of boot and lock screen issues, the news isn’t exactly sunshine and rainbows for Galaxy S21 users either.

According to reports from Korea, the update for the Galaxy S21 series also seems to harbor the same lock screen gremlins that have forced Samsung to halt the One UI 6.1 rollout for the Galaxy S22. While users in Korea, the only market where the update is currently available, haven’t reported issues, caution is definitely advised.

Reports suggest the frustrating lock screen glitches on the S22 might show up on your S21 too, potentially rendering your phone unusable. In some cases, Galaxy S22 users have even experienced unresponsive touchscreens after the update, and support suggests these issues could affect the S21 as well.

While a fix is likely on the way, it’s best to steer clear of the One UI 6.1 update for now if you’re rocking a Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S22. Just to be safe, this temporary hold may extend to other devices that received the One UI 6.1 update alongside the S22 series, including the Galaxy Z Flip 4, Flip 3, Z Fold 4, and Z Fold 3. Thankfully, though, these foldable devices seem to be immune to the current bug.

For those who have already updated their S22 and S21 devices to One UI 6.1 and are facing the lock screen nightmare, a factory reset might be the only way out for now. It’s a frustrating situation, especially considering the potential data loss involved, but it’s a necessary step to regain control of your phone.

Samsung is likely working diligently to squash these bugs before a wider rollout. While the delay might be a bit of a bummer, it’s better to wait for a stable update than risk turning your phone into a digital paperweight. So, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22 and other potentially affected device owners, hit pause on that One UI 6.1 update button for now. Let’s hope Samsung sorts things out soon and delivers a smooth, glitch-free update experience for everyone.
