Samsung recently started rolling out the April security update for its flagship Galaxy S25 series, bringing the latest security patches and a few tweaks. While software updates are generally welcomed for improving performance and security, one particular visual change in this update has caught the attention of users, and not entirely in a good way. The battery icon displayed in the status bar has undergone a redesign, and the reception has been mixed, with some users outright disliking the new look.

Reports surfaced on forums like Reddit shortly after the update began hitting devices in regions like India and Singapore. Users noted that the familiar battery icon now appears noticeably ‘fatter’ or ‘chunkier’ than its predecessor. This seemingly minor aesthetic adjustment has sparked a surprising amount of discussion among the Galaxy community.

Here’s a comparison between how the icon looked before the update and after (screenshots via @iashyus / X):

For some S25 owners, the change is unwelcome. Describing the previous icon as preferable, users took to online platforms to voice their opinions. On Reddit, user nishantkadian bluntly stated, “This battery icon sucks,” a sentiment echoed by Sufficient-Theory419 who commented, “Battery icon is ugly now 😤”. Another user, Due_deathsend, called the new icon “ugly and disproportionate.” The primary complaint seems to be the increased thickness, which some feel disrupts the visual harmony of the status bar elements.

Seeing screenshots of the battery icon, I’m also in the same camp as those who think the icon is ugly. Alongside the icon change, the update also introduced a new charging animation. Feedback on this has been somewhat more positive, with some users describing it as smoother than the previous version, though others found it a bit jarring initially.

That said, the April update wasn’t just about the battery display; it has also enabled live notifications for music and media apps, a feature users are finding convenient. However, the redesigned battery icon remains the main talking point for many.

If you’ve got the update, feel free to share your thoughts on the new battery icon in the comments section below.
