If you’ve been trying to use Google’s AI Studio lately you might have hit a frustrating snag. Users across various online forums, including Reddit and Google’s own AI support pages, are reporting problems uploading files. So, if your uploads are getting stuck, you’re definitely not the only one facing this issue.
The problem seems widespread. People are finding that when they try to add images, audio files, PDFs, or even simple text files to their prompts, the upload process just hangs. A spinning circle appears and never seems to resolve. This issue has been popping up frequently over the last few days.
Many users have tried the usual troubleshooting steps. Clearing browser cache and cookies, switching between browsers like Chrome and Edge, using incognito mode, and even restarting their computers haven’t consistently solved the problem. For some, the issue arises after reloading an existing chat session. As user Ok_Tooth_8946 described on Reddit, “…any file is not being able to upload… it just keeps loading and loading unless you create and start a new complete chat.”
The intermittent nature of the bug adds to the confusion. User Legal_Association133 noted, “…sometimes none work, other times one of the 3 [upload methods] will work, in failure cases, the spinning circle never stops.”
While the exact cause isn’t confirmed, some users speculate it could be due to high demand for the new Gemini 2.5 Pro model or perhaps backend changes Google is implementing.
Fortunately, the community has found a couple of potential workarounds. Several users reported success by first uploading a file from their Google Drive within AI Studio. After doing that successfully, they were then able to upload files directly from their local computer in the same session. However, this might need repeating if the browser tab is refreshed. Another user mentioned that simply disconnecting and reconnecting their Wi-Fi helped resolve the issue temporarily.
For now, users hope for a quick fix from Google. Until then, trying the Google Drive workaround might be the best bet for getting files into AI Studio.
