The Google Pixel Watch, both the original and the Pixel Watch 2, are facing a peculiar issue — a rogue Do Not Disturb (DND) mode that’s not only turning on automatically, but also syncing with the user’s phone, overriding its DND settings. This means that if your watch decides to silence notifications until 9 am, your phone unwillingly follows suit, even if you had it set to unmute at 7 am.

This problem has left users exasperated. Imagine waking up to a silent phone, even though you specifically set it to ring early. Or missing important calls and messages in the morning because your watch has decided to keep you undisturbed. Some users have shared their frustrations on online forums, detailing how this unexpected behavior is disrupting their daily lives.

Apparently, this problem is likely amplified by how Bedtime mode and DND are intrinsically linked on the watch, leading to a forced synchronization that overrides the phone’s settings. The culprit seems to be the bidirectional syncing between the watch and phone. When Bedtime mode is enabled on the phone, it syncs with the watch, activating its own Bedtime mode. However, on the watch, Bedtime mode and DND are essentially the same thing. This triggers a reverse sync, forcing the phone into DND mode regardless of its individual settings. But it becomes even more annoying since the Pixel Watch automatically turns on DND on several occassions and in the process enables DND on the phone.

This issue has sparked multiple complaints, as it disrupts users’ routines and causes them to miss important calls and notifications. The forced synchronization not only mutes the phone but can also alter other DND settings, leading to further confusion and frustration.

Google is aware of the problem and is actively investigating. While a permanent solution is yet to be implemented, users have discovered a temporary workaround. By disabling the “Do Not Disturb for Bedtime mode” option in the phone’s Bedtime mode settings, they can prevent the watch from hijacking their phone’s DND.

However, this workaround is not ideal, as it sacrifices the convenience of synchronized Bedtime mode features between the watch and phone. Users are hopeful that Google will soon release a fix that addresses the root cause of this issue, allowing them to enjoy the full benefits of both Bedtime mode and DND without any unwanted surprises.

In the meantime, Pixel Watch users should be aware of this potential bug and adjust their settings accordingly to avoid any unexpected disruptions. While the issue is undoubtedly frustrating, it’s reassuring to know that Google is working on a solution. Until then, users will need to be proactive in managing their DND settings to ensure their devices work in harmony with their preferences.
