If you’ve been relying on the Google Calendar widget to keep your days straight, you might have noticed something a bit off lately. Instead of showing today’s date, the widget seems to have taken a trip back in time, getting stuck on an older date — some users have reported dates as far back as December 31, 2023. Perhaps it’s a New Year’s Eve hangover that just won’t quit.
But the date isn’t the only thing acting up. Some users are also reporting that the widget isn’t loading properly, not updating, and even hiding events. Some users are finding that their widgets are only displaying events when there’s nothing else scheduled on that day. Previously, the widget would show multiple concurrent events without any issue, but now, these events are mysteriously hidden, leaving users to tap on the three dots to view the event details.
This glitch has been popping up mostly on iOS devices, but Android users haven’t been completely spared either. Whether you’re planning your day or just trying to keep track of which century you’re in, a calendar stuck in the past and not showing your full schedule is less than helpful.
The good news? A product expert over in the Google Calendar forum says this is a known issue that the relevant team is working to address. The not-so-good news? We’re still waiting on an official response, so for now, your calendar might be more “history book” than “daily planner.”
If your Google Calendar widget is acting like it’s stuck in a time machine or outrightly not loading, hang tight — hopefully, the fix will roll out soon. In the meantime, you might have to resort to the old-fashioned way of checking dates… like, you know, opening the actual app.
