Google’s latest Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1 rollout seems to have hit a major snag, with multiple Pixel users reporting severe bootloop problems that render their devices unusable. The issues began surfacing shortly after the update went live. Judging by reports, it’s affecting a wide range of devices from the Pixel 6a all the way up to the flagship Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Affected users report that their phones are experiencing continuous restart cycles every two minutes, total system UI failures, and in some instances, devices are entering recovery mode with alarming messages about corrupted Android systems.
One Pixel 7 owner on Reddit shared their nightmare scenario where attempting to backup data through Google One immediately crashes the phone and triggers recovery mode messages stating “The Android System could not be loaded, your data may be corrupt.”
Some Pixel 9 series owners report their phones showing memory usage readings that are completely bonkers – we’re talking about Android OS allegedly consuming 115GB of memory on a device with 16GB total. That’s not just wrong, it’s spectacularly wrong.
Safe mode either doesn’t appear as an option or, when accessible, still results in screen flashing and failed loading. Factory resets haven’t proven effective either, with at least one user reporting that even a complete wipe didn’t resolve the bootloop issue.
I personally installed the QPR2 Beta 1 update on my Pixel 8 without encountering any of these issues. And many others have also been able to install the update without any bootlooping. So it’s unclear what might be causing these bootloop cases.
In case you’re stuck, a potential workaround is to start from scratch using the Android Flash Tool. Just note that it’ll wipe everything from the device.
If you’re running Android 16 Beta and considering the QPR2 update, you might want to hold off until Google addresses these issues. We’ll keep track of the situation and will post an update if and when there’s something to share.
