If you’re a regular user of xAI’s Grok, you might have noticed a key feature mysteriously vanish. Users across X and Reddit have been reporting that the “DeeperSearch” option, known for providing more thorough and comprehensive answers, has disappeared from the web interface.

After noticing the disappearance, users started taking to X and Reddit this week to voice their concerns. One user on X asked, “Hey guys, any reason why you removed ‘deepersearch’ without any statement?” Another posted, “DeeperSearch is gone on Grok Web.” The sentiment was similar on Reddit, where a user started a thread asking if the removal was a bug or an unannounced change.

After seeing these reports, I decided to investigate. When I accessed Grok through its integration on the X platform, I found that DeeperSearch was indeed missing. The familiar dropdown menu to select the more intensive search mode was nowhere to be found.

However, the story changed when I navigated directly to the Grok website. There, I was able to find and use the DeeperSearch option without any issues. I even tried this in an incognito window without being signed in, and the feature was still present, though your mileage may vary.

Interestingly, one user said, “Looks like a change on Grok. DeepSearch must be used first before DeeperSearch is available?” However, I’ve not been able to confirm the same just yet since when I tried using the standard DeepSearch on Grok (via X), it was unbearably slow to load and quit mid-way. That said, you could try giving that a shot, but again, there’s no proof it would let you use the DeeperSearch feature thereafter.

So what’s actually going on? The official channels have been silent, leaving users to speculate. Some believe it could be a temporary bug or part of a larger update. One user on X stated“Over time, deeper will become deep.” But there’s no signs of that happening at the moment. Others have floated the idea that this could be a precursor to a new pricing model, where features like DeeperSearch might be bundled into a higher-tier subscription. “Maybe they priming us to pay more for these features back,” one Redditor commented.

For now, the situation is a bit of a mixed bag. It appears the DeeperSearch feature is largely unavailable when using Grok through X. But for those who rely on its more powerful research capabilities, the direct Grok website seems to be the current workaround (at least it worked in my testing). If you’re missing DeeperSearch, try heading straight to the source. It’s an extra step, but it might just bring back the feature you’re looking for. We’ll have to wait for an official word from xAI to know the full story.
