Yesterday we highlighted a major concern many Instagram users have been facing for the past few days. Many are reporting that they are stuck with a blank screen or are seeing a “Something went wrong” error. Naturally, worries cropped up about being banned or losing precious photos and messages built up over years.
As we speculated, the problem does seem to be a bug with Instagram and the platform’s support team responded to a user’s complaint with the following statement:
We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.
While the acknowledgment offered some relief that it was a technical bug and not a personal ban, it also highlighted user frustration about the lack of direct support. As user MashaSukai put it on Reddit, “This is insane. No way to talk to an actual human being who will actually know what’s going on? Stupid”. Although, you can get in touch with support if you’re a paying Meta Verified subscriber.
That said, while a mere acknowledgment isn’t all that helpful to users. Thankfully, resourceful users on platforms like Reddit started sharing a potential workaround that seems to be getting people back into their locked accounts. The fix involves logging into your Instagram account through a web browser – like Chrome, Safari, Brave, or even Opera – on your phone or computer, instead of using the app.
After doing this, several users reported that after logging in via the web, they were presented with a pop-up message mentioning something like “resources are available” or offering help. For many, simply closing or canceling this message was enough. After doing so and returning to the Instagram app, they found their account access was restored.
Reddit user Ready_Ad8351 was among the first to share this method, and many others quickly confirmed its success. User KibaTheMalamute commented, “It worked. Thx. I did it through safari. I just logged in and got the ‘resources available’ thing immediately. I hit ‘cancel’ then exited out of safari and went back into the app. Everything is fine now.” Another user, floppypaleo, added, “It worked! I opened it through an incognito tab on Brave browser and I got my account back instantly!”
It hasn’t worked perfectly for everyone on the first try, with some needing to attempt the login on different browsers or wait a bit longer. However, for those still staring at a blank screen or an error message, trying the web browser login offers a hopeful path back into their Instagram account.
