Instagram users are reporting a frustrating glitch that prevents them from switching their profiles back to personal accounts after previously opting for a business or creator profile. This issue leaves some individuals stuck with professional features, even if they no longer need them. The problem also seems to be impacting their ability to make their accounts private.

Many users typically switch to business or creator accounts to access analytics and insights, which are unavailable on personal profiles. However, a growing number are now finding themselves unable to revert to their original account type. One user expressed their struggle, saying, “I tried to switch it to a creator account and nothing’s changing. I’m literally stuck on a business account and I have been for like a week now.” Another user, who had been private since opening their account, noted, “I was curious to see the stats only to regret it.”

The bug appears to be widespread, with reports surfacing on Reddit and X. Users describe trying to switch back to a personal account, only to find the option unresponsive or the settings tab simply closing. The persistent professional dashboard and features remain, despite repeated attempts to change the account type.

It’s not a one-off glitch either. One user tried on both phone and desktop, only to have the option vanish. “It just closes the settings tab,” they said. Without the ability to go back, users can’t hide their posts, and new profiles remain visible to anyone on Instagram. That defeats the whole point of private sharing.

Instagram hasn’t officially commented on the bug, but some community members suggest it might be linked to a recent update in account management features. It doesn’t seem like there’s any quick fix at the moment, either.

Until Instagram rolls out a fix, the safest bet is to think twice before switching away from your personal profile. Instagram will need to act fast to keep trust intact, especially as creators and small businesses rely on those toggles for their online presence. Until then, be careful which switch you flip.
