I’ve been closely following a couple of issues plaguing Instagram users in recent days. The two issues appear to be the sudden disappearance of Instagram Notes and a new limitation on the number of comments visible on posts and reels.
Vanishing Notes on Instagram
Instagram Notes, introduced as a bite-sized text-based sharing feature, have become increasingly popular. However, many users are reporting that their Notes vanished without a trace. I’ve scoured social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter, where a number of individuals are expressing their confusion and annoyance (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10).

The cause of this remains unclear. There’s speculation that it might be a temporary glitch or a deliberate change on Instagram’s part. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to find a consistent solution for restoring the missing Notes. Some even claim that the Notes show up on an alternative account on the same device, but are missing from the other profile. Here’s how one individual described it:

Where did the comments go?
In addition to the Notes debacle, users (1,2,3,4,5) are also facing a bizarre limit on the visibility of comments under posts and reels. Instead of being able to scroll through the entire conversation, many see only a small selection, often as few as ten. This new bug has significantly hindered engagement and made following discussions much more difficult.
Since the update the comments are sorted by latest, also no of comments is removed.
TLDR: text and hashtags not publishing with posted images, can’t see comments, insights seem wrong – instagram seems really glitchy! anyone else?
Based on my observations, this issue seems tied to a recent Instagram update. The reasons behind this change remain elusive, but it’s sparked considerable backlash from users who find it disruptive and unnecessary. Luckily, it seems the functionality was restored for some users (1,2,3), indicating a fix might be rolling out.
Troubleshooting steps
While I can’t offer guaranteed fixes for these issues, there are a few general troubleshooting steps you might try if you’re affected:
- Force quit and restart: Fully close the Instagram app and reopen it. This can sometimes refresh the app and resolve temporary glitches.
- Update the app: Check the App Store or Google Play Store for updates. An available update might include bug fixes.
- Reinstall Instagram: If updates don’t help, uninstall and reinstall the Instagram app.
Unfortunately, the limited comment visibility may not have a user-side workaround.
If these troubleshooting steps don’t work, reporting the issue to Instagram is essential. You can do this through the app’s “Report a Problem” feature. The more users report these bugs, the greater the chance Instagram will address them. That said, in my own testing, I was able to see Instagram Notes and was also able to scroll through all the comments. I tested it on an Android smartphone and an iOS device with the latest Instagram update. So it’s clear that the problem is affecting only some accounts.
